Bin the Labour/Lib Dem Garden Waste Tax

green bin

After 18 years of free garden and food waste collections when the Conservatives ran Hertsmere Borough Council, the new Labour and Liberal Democrat Coalition have voted unanimously to impose a green bin tax on households of £50 per year for each green bin to be collected.

Hertsmere Conservatives condemn this unnecessary tax grab especially during the cost of living crisis. While the Coalition promised everyone a £5 rebate on council tax, which you now have to apply for if you want it back, they are going to charge 10 times that amount per year for every green bin you wanted collected from April 2024. This will affect 39,000 homes out of the 45,000 across the borough. Is yours one of them? Were you asked your views on this new tax?

If you think this Green tax is unfair please sign our petition calling on the council to restore FREE collections of green bins and green and food waste.

The petition will be presented to Hertsmere Borough Council later in the year.

Let’s Bin this Garden Waste Tax and not financially punish those who are doing their best to recycle more.
