At a Council meeting on 27th April 2022, Hertsmere councillors unanimously adopted a motion pledging an additional £50,000 to support Ukrainian refugees.

Condemning "Putin's imperialist invasion of Ukraine" and expressing the Council's "full support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine", the motion noted how Hertsmere has a proud track record of welcoming Syrian and Afghan refugees and pledges to continue to support those who are assisting and housing Ukrainian refugees. The motion also pledged to draw upon the Council's reserves as part of the support package and speed up suitability checks relating to offers of accommodation.

Approximately 100 Ukrainians live in Hertsmere. As part of the package of measures, information will be promoted to these residents and the Council will use social media to promote this information to Ukrainian residents.
